$295,000 USD fully-furnished home with private swimming pool owned by a Canadian couple inside a gated community (24 hrs. manned security) in Los Altos de Cerro Azul within Chagres National Park in Panama. Our home is in a lush and tranquil forest-covered mountain expatriate community (many Canadians, Americans and other nationalities) surrounded by breathtaking views of the Panama Canal, Atlantic and Pacific Oceans from the viewing platform, walking distance from our home. Numerous nature walking/hiking trails meander along the river banks through dense forests leading to stunning waterfalls and natural swimming pools just on our doorsteps.
This gated community is a mecca for bird watchers and nature enthusiasts as toucans, monkeys, three-toed sloths, hummingbirds, howler monkeys, iridescent blue butterflies, stick insects, luminescent bird species and countless plant species can be approached and photographed in and from our spacious property. Many have called their Panama experience a “photographer’s dream”. The weather/temperature is ideal all year round (24-28 degrees Celsius) and the oxygen-rich, perfect climate is conducive to growing plants and flowers of all kinds, including orchids. Wake up every morning to the call of the howler monkeys, chirping birds, and cicadas announcing a perfect sunny day and spectacular sunrises from the terrace, swinging in a hammock.
Los Altos de Cerro Azul is conveniently located 25 minutes by car high above Tocumen International Airport and 45 minutes from Panama City Centre. Modern shopping malls abound within close reach of the airport. One of our favorite outings is to drive down the picturesque windy road from our home to reach a well-maintained, high-speed highway leading us to Panama City, where virtually everything your heart desires is readily available. Panama is often referred to as the Dubai of Central America as shoppers from many Latin American countries specifically visit Panama for their shopping needs.
This property is child and pet friendly as it is enclosed within a high concrete, gated wall which offers complete privacy in addition to security. Our residence has had very low usage, as we have vacationed in our beautiful home only two months yearly since 2008. During our absence, a very competent and hardworking Panamanian worker tends to our needs such as gardening, lawn cutting and maintenance.
It is a rarity to have the opportunity to own a private residence situated inside a national park anywhere around the world. Being in the midst of nature and wildlife is one of the many attributes our beautiful home has to offer.
The Chagres National Park delights visitors with a place to kayak, raft, fish, hike, swim and meet the indigenous Embera tribe. Paying a visit to these most fascinating and friendly people is something you and your guests will never forget, as you will become immersed in the natives’ traditional way of life. The far-side of Chagres National Park is reachable by car. Once you reach the park’s administrative office, you will be taken up a river to the Embera’s village by traditional wooden dugouts to experience their enthralling culture first hand. We have taken many friends and family members to the Chagres National Park over the years and they remain enchanted, rating it as one of their best ever travel experiences.
Did you know that Panama uses the US dollar as its currency and is one of the best overseas retirement destinations there is? It offers special benefits for retirees including a residence visa. Most importantly, if your dream is to retire or buy a second home near spectacular islands, Panama has the Pacific coast, Caribbean coast and sand-fringed islands such as the San Blas Islands which is one of our top beach destinations in Panama. Medical facilities in Panama City abound and are global standard. Our green mountain community of Los Altos de Cerro Azul has two practicing medical doctors available and on call for emergencies. If you worry about natural disasters, fear not, as Panama has no hurricanes or major earthquakes.
